What makes owning alpaca different?

Learn about their uniqueness while we spend time sharing and showing so that you have a better understanding.

"Want to be" or "new" owners hear many stories and realities-keep them in a herd, make protection a priority, parasites kill, taking babies from mothers is cruel...learn the whys and why nots so that you know what the commitment will be to make your ownership successful.

Together we'll talk about the basics of ownership and develop an understanding of behaviors. We plan to practice 'hands on' so you can leave this session realizing why (or why not) you want to own alpaca OR, as an owner, what you can do to keep them healthy and happy.

What makes this different than a 'zoom meeting?' The opportunity to share and meet other 'alpaca people' and learn resources.

1. Determine your purpose for owning alpaca
2. Recognize alpaca needs to prepare your environment:
   1. Pasture space and management
   2. Protection
   3. Health considerations
3. Identify behaviors to create successful ownership
4. Plan a parasite management program
5. "How to” things to know: health checks; giving meds; identifying problems; communicating with the vet.
